500 FELT objects
From garments to carpets to vessels, the incredibly diverse objects in this addition to the popular 500 series of books illustrate the seemingly limitless potential of felt as an artistic medium. You'll see a broad range of contemporary work in different styles, colors, and forms from top artists and designers living across the globe. Since this book focuses on a material rather than a specific type of object, the pieces are a surprise and delight from page to page. The hats, scarves, jewelry, bags, furniture, lighting, wall art, and other objects offer exciting insights into the different perspectives and approaches used today when it comes to felt. Jorie Johnson's Sumi Series: Flare Coat features sumi-painted, clamp-resisted, de-gummed, and hand-felted seamless construction. To create her merino wool and silk Kimono, Ulrike V. Kutzleben-Hausen used nuno and shibori techniques, while Tom Dixon double layered and heat pressed his Felt Shade Floor Lamps. Dagmar Binder's Series of 3D Structured Neckpieces include a variety of three-dimensional surfaces based on structures found in nature. Bita Ghezelayagh, Jean Hicks, Catherine O'Leary, Stephanie Metz, and Susan Nichols are among the other artists whose works are presented. Eye-opening, provocative, and remarkable, 500 Fett Objects is a must-have book for anyone who creates or admires textile art. Juror Susan Brown is associate curator of textiles at the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum in New York City. Curator of the 2009 Cooper-Hewitt exhibit Fashioning Felt, she has written and lectured extensively about the material. Brown also recently co-curated Quic/etake: Rodarte with Gregory Krum and Color Moves: Art and Fashion by Sonia Delaunay, both at the Cooper-Hewitt. She.is on the f'acu!ty ofthe School of Art and Design History and Theory at Parsons The New School for Design and lectures regularly at the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University. A former costume designer for theater, opera, and television, she holds an MA in Museum Studies: Costume and Textiles from the Fashion Institute of Technology.

Kommentar:
Bilderbuch
und als solches ist es wirklich empfehlenswert
handelt
stört dies auch hier beim "Lesen" nicht.
auch der Preis scheint mir durchaus angemessen.
